The New Zealand-based retailer secures a place in a strong tenant line-up at Adelaide's new terminal

Duty Free Stores Wellington has been awarded its second Australian duty-free contract, at Adelaide International airport. Adelaide Airport retail manager Philippa Crawford confirmed the appointment of the company's subsidiary Duty Free Stores Australia to run three locations—two departures and one arrivals—at Adelaide's new terminal.

The airport is close to finalising its retail and catering offer at the A$260m ($203m) facility, which will open in October and is expected to handle 5m passengers per year, and has attracted several international brands to operate concessions.

Hachette Distribution Services will operate a NewsLink newsstand, children's bookstore Kaboom, Virgin Music & Books and the first Relay press and books concept in Australia.

Coopers Brewery will run the Coopers General Store, while airport caterer Delaware North Companies Australia will manage Coopers Alehouse and five café concepts. Australian firm Hudsons Coffee has secured the two remaining catering outlets.

The final leases available in the new terminal's 3,000sq m (32,280sq ft) retail mall are to be allocated following further negotiations. Adelaide Airport managing director Phil Baker said that he was delighted with the quality of concessionaires enlisted so far.

"From the outset our goal has been to create a new terminal which provides a real front door to South Australia and puts this state on the world stage," he said. "We have conducted an extensive international search for the right retailers who can create a shopping experience for passengers which is at least on par, or exceeding, other major airports across Australia and the world."

RavenFox.com understands that retailers including The Nuance Group, Alpha Retail and DFS Group expressed interest in the airport's duty-free concession.
