Dufry Group and local computers and accessories distributor Sprint-Cass are both hoping to extend their electronics business at Singapore Changi airport
The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore's latest computer and lifestyle electronics tender has attracted two bidders. Dufry Group and local computer and accessories distributor Sprint-Cass, which both already operate electronics concessions at Singapore Changi airport, are competing for a three-year contract to operate two stores in departures and transit hall south at terminal two.Sprint-Cass, which operates a computer store in T1's departures and transit hall west and is a major supplier for other electronics stores at the airport, outbid Dufry across all three options of the tender.
For the 299sq m (3,217sq ft) lifestyle electronics shop, on top of a mandatory base rent it proposed additional rental of either 12% of monthly gross sales or a sales-triggered minimum monthly guarantee of S$239,943 on monthly gross sales of S$1.7m or below, or S$249,900 for sales higher than S$1.7m. Dufry offered additional rental of 12% of monthly gross sales or a minimum monthly guarantee of S$180,000.
For the 140sq m (1,506sq ft) computer store, Sprint-Cass offered additional rent of either 12% of monthly gross sales or a date-triggered, sales-staggered minimum monthly guarantee package. On sales of S$1.3m or below, for the period between January 5-31 2007 it offered a guarantee of S$164,525 and from February 1 2007 to October 31 2009 it offered a guarantee of S$188,900. On sales of more than S$1.3m it offered a monthly guarantee of S$209,430 for the period from January 5 2007 to October 31 2009. Dufry Group offered 5% of monthly gross sales or a monthly guarantee of S$66,600, whichever is higher.
For the two stores together, Sprint-Cass offered either 12% of monthly gross sales or, on sales of S$3m or less, S$239,943 per month between November 1 and December 31, and S$430,900 per month between January 1 2007 and October 31 2009. On sales greater than S$3m, it offered a monthly guarantee of S$470,000 from November 1 2006 to October 31 2009. Dufry offered 9% of monthly gross sales or a minimum monthly guarantee of S$246,000 on sales up to S$2.33m, S$271,000 on sales of between S$2.33m and S$2.75m, and S$298,000 for sales above S$2.75m.
Both concessions will be eligible for a two year extension at the discretion of the airport authority.
