Dufry Group has revealed it will operate 3,345sq m (35,992sq ft) of duty-free space at Moscow Sheremetyevo terminal one under a seven-year agreement with terminal operator OAO International Airport Sheremetyevo.

The duty-free space is expected to open in 2007 and will offer all product categories. Moscow Sheremetyevo is one of the main airports in the region and welcomes about 8.5m international passengers each year and the new T1 will handle 2.5m international departure passengers.

Dufry CEO Julían Diáz commented: “We are very excited about  the possibilities of operating at Sheremetyevo. We will be able to design and implement a modern and attractive shopping area based on our extensive retail expertise. Our goal is to create one of the prime travel-retail possibilities in the region. Eurasia & Asia, and especially Russia, is one of the key strategic growth areas for Dufry due to its high development potential.”

Diáz added: “As we have mentioned many times, one of the key elements of our strategy is to combine the organic growth of the existing operations with new concessions mainly in emerging markets. This new contract strongly reinforces our commitment to this strategy.”
