Dufry Group has contributed €50,000 to European Travel Retail Council’s security crusade to ensure that a global solution is reached over restrictions on liquids and gels

Dufry Group has donated €50,000 ($64,665) to European Travel Retail Council (ETRC)’s campaign fund to help it create a global solution to hand luggage restrictions on liquids and gels.

Dufry stated that ETRC has been instrumental in defending the interests of travel-retail operators in the recent negotiations concerning the new security measures in the airports of Europe.

In a statement the company said that ETRC has successfully secured the regulatory framework to allow travel retailers to continue trading in the EU, Iceland, Norway and Switzerland within the new security regime. The implementation of these security measures in Europe has demonstrated that solutions can be found for passengers, authorities and travel retailers alike.

Dufry CEO Julián Díaz said: “Taking the European initiative to the next phase and pursuing harmonisation on a global scale will be our next challenge. We believe ETRC is uniquely placed to help us to deliver on this topic as it has established a close working relationship with the EU commission, which can play a key role to an international solution. We have been approached by ETRC to fund their activities and Dufry is happy to be among the first to support it with contribution of €50,000.”
