Dufry appoints former Aldeasa executives

16-Feb-2005

The Swiss retailer continues its recent form of hiring senior managers from its Spanish rival and acquisition target

Dufry Group has announced the appointments of two former Aldeasa executives to its senior management. Alberto Iglesias, formerly Aldeasa regional chief operating officer for the Baleares, joins Dufry as director retail operations, while Juan Antonio Nieto, previously Aldeasa development manager, takes on the newly formed position of Dufry development manager.

Iglesias will be responsible for the implementation of Dufry’s operational plan and will work in collaboration with regional deputy chief operating officers and category managers to standardise management procedures at the group’s stores. Nieto is charged with developing store concepts and new business opportunities, in collaboration with regional headquarters. Both will be based at the group’s global headquarters in Basel and will report directly to global chief operating officer José Antonio Gea.

The appointments follow the approval of Dufry Group’s Eu31 ($40.3) per share offer for Spanish retailer Aldeasa by the Spanish stock market regulator earlier this week. Another bid, the Eu33 ($42.9) per share offer tabled by Italian catering conglomerate Autogrill, is still pending approval.
