Dubai sets another retail benchmark
Dubai Duty Free (DDF) announced today it has set a record monthly sales figure in October of Dhs102.6m ($28.5m)
In addition, a new daily sales record was set on November 1 at Dhs4.36m ($1.2m).
The new monthly record surpasses that set in March 2002 (Dhs90.7m or $25m) and represents a 59% increase in sales over October 2001. DDF said the new daily record sets the tone for high sales expectations in November.
This year is proving to be exceptional for Dubai Duty Free, with the operation on track to achieve its Dhs1bn ($280m) annual sales target. Year-to-date figures have reached Dhs876m ($240m), representing a 19% increase in sales over the same period last year.
DDF managing director Colm McLoughlin said: "In the month of October, the shopfloor sales surpassed those for the entire first year of operations in 1984 when the annual turnover was Dhs72.8m ($20m). This is a notable milestone and can be attributed to the hard work and commitment of the Dubai Duty Free staff who are entirely focused on providing travellers with a first class shopping experience."
The highest selling categories in October included fragrances, which notched up monthly sales of Dhs12.6m ($3.5m) closely followed by electronics which reached monthly sales of Dhs12m ($3.3m).
