Dubai Duty Free (DDF) is celebrating a successful start to the year after achieving record sales of Dh251.2m (US$69.7m) in the first three months of 2002. The figure, representing a 5% increase on the same period last year, puts the company in a good position to achieve its annual target of Dh1bn ($277m).

On the way, DDF also broke its daily record on February 21 (Dh4.3m/$1.2m) and its monthly record in March (Dh90.7m/$25m). Gold continues to be the best-selling category, followed closely by perfumes.

Said DDF managing director Colm McLoughlin: "We have set an ambitious target this year, and the first quarter results put us well on track to achieve that. The important thing now is to continually review and enhance the shopfloor operation to ensure that passengers enjoy a first-class shopping experience in one of the best airport duty-free environments in the world."
