Dubai Duty Free (DDF) has claimed a new monthly sales record, posting revenue of Dh114.7m ($31.2m) in July?or over $1m a day. The figure beats the operator's previous record set in January 2003 and represents year-on-year growth of 30%.
The operator pointed to the electronics and beauty categories as particularly strong performers in July, with both posting 35% sales increases over July 2002. DDF also enjoyed strong sales of books, boosted by the arrival of the fifth instalment of the Harry Potter series.
DDF managing director Colm McLoughlin said: ?Our first-half sales figures were up 16% on the previous year and we are absolutely delighted that this trend is continuing into the second half. We are aiming to close the year with sales of Dh1.3bn ($354m) and with monthly figures like this, we are very much on track. This is a great reflection of the commitment from everyone at Dubai Duty Free.?
DDF celebrates its 20th anniversary in December this year.
