Dubai extends credit card services

19-Nov-2002

Within one year of its launch, the Dubai Duty Free and American Express co-branded card is on track to achieve its target customer base, while the benefits offered to existing card members have tripled as a result of associations with a wide range of UAE-based companies

Launched in December last year (TRW 05/12/01), the co-branded card was a first of its kind and offered card holders exclusive benefits and privileges, including discount shopping at Dubai Duty Free. In the past year the benefits, which are now featured in a new membership booklet, have increased to include discounts of up to 40% on travel, car hire, dining out and downtown shopping.

Commenting on the development of the programme, DDF managing director Colm McLoughlin said: "We have been delighted with the response that the card has generated in the past year. It is of tremendous benefit to frequent travellers who shop at Dubai Duty Free and now with the extended privileges it offers UAE residents an extensive range of lifestyle benefits on everything from eating out to entertainment."

In addition to the discount benefits members can also take advantage of a low interest rate of 1.95%, and low annual membership fee of Dhs75 ($20). Monthly promotions offer all card members the chance to enter Dubai Duty Free's famous Millennium Millionaire and the Finest Surprise promotions.

UAE country manager for American Express Middle East Rasool Hujair commented: "The Dubai Duty Free Amercian Express card marked the first time that American Express had entered into a partnership agreement with a duty-free operator anywhere in the world. Without doubt the offer of 10% discount shopping at Dubai Duty Free continues to be a main draw for card members."
