An accident on the construction site of Dubai International airport's new terminal has left a number of workers dead, according to reports

Between five and eight workers have been killed following an accident on the site of Dubai International airport's new terminal three, news agencies have reported.

Some reports said a collapsed wall was the cause of the accident, while others have blamed scaffolding under construction.

The airport is currently being expanded at a cost of $4.1bn to include a third terminal and two concourses for the exclusive use of Emirates Airlines passengers.

The new terminal has been designed by Paris airports authority Aeroports de Paris and will be in the shape of a giant plane wing almost a kilometre (1,100 yards) in length.

The expansion will increase annual capacity from 22m to almost 70m passengers and is due to be completed in 2006. Dubai International expects to process 60m annual passengers by 2010.
