Dubai Duty Free sets new record
Dubai Duty Free announced today a new daily sales record on March 2 by registering 26,457 transactions totalling Dh3.68m (over $1m). This is equivalent to more than one purchase per departing passenger.
Managing director Colm McLoughlin said."Traditionally, December has been a record month for Dubai Duty Free, and this was certainly the case last year with the added bonus of a record day on December 21. The sales trends that we have seen since then have been extremely encouraging with January topping the previous record and now we have a new daily sales record in March."
"Generally speaking, we find that since the opening of Sheikh Rashid Terminal last April, passengers are taking more time to shop and that shopping is becoming part of the overall travel experience. The newly extended shopfloor area has also enabled us to provide an extensive range of products in a more customer-friendly setting," McLoughlin said.
The overall trend for best-selling products continued on the day with gold and perfumes taking the first and second place with sales of Dh455,245 ($124,000) and Dh395,070 ($108,000) respectively. Electronics were the fourth top-selling category with daily sales of Dh332,536 ($91,000) highlighting the increase in demand for mobile telephones and IT products in general, the company said in a statement.
