The retailer celebrates passing the half billion-dollar mark after year-on-year sales growth of more than 30%
Sales at Dubai Duty Free (DDF) scaled to new heights during 2004, surpassing $500m (Dhs1.8bn). The figure represents a 32% sales increase compared with 2003 and confirms the company's status as one of the top three airport retailers in the world.
Refurbishments at DDF have driven sales levels across several categories. These include the addition of a Gifts from Dubai shop in June, which enjoyed a 100% sales increase in 2004. The opening of a new fashion area last month also grew sales in ladies fashion by 60% and menswear by 39%. Sales across top categories such as gold grew by 34% while fragrances rose by 38% and electronics increased by 24%.
Managing director Colm McLoughlin commented: "The record sales are a fitting end to what has been a fantastic year at DDF. It is appropriate to acknowledge the tremendous team effort that goes into running an operation of this size and I would like to extend my thanks to HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum for his ongoing support and commitment. Thanks and praise also goes to the staff who ensure the smooth running of the operation 24 hours a day and 365 days a year."
President of the department of Civil Aviation Dubai HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum said: "The past 12 months have seen exceptional growth with sales consistently running in excess of 30%. Crossing the half billion-dollar mark is a significant milestone for DDF and I would like to congratulate the operation on its achievement."
