The retailer is on course for another record year as half-year sales reach $283m
Dubai Duty Free has reported half-year sales of $283m, up 19% on the same period last year. The retailer also recorded an increase in the number of daily sales transactions, to an average of 34,000, with average transaction value rising to $44.Managing director Colm McLoughlin said: "This has been a great year so far. Sales in the top categories continue to grow while there have been dramatic increases in certain categories as a result of major renovations in the past year".
The new Gifts from Dubai shop in the central aisle of the Sheikh Rashid terminal boosted category sales by 95% in the first six months, and the company noted a 77% increase in men's fashion sales as a result of the new fashion area opened in December last year.
The company said it expected the opening of a new arrivals duty-free store this month to boost arrivals sales, which currently account for 9% of total sales and were 17% up on the first six months of 2004. The new shop will cover 670sq m (7,209sq ft), more than double the existing shop size.
Other plans include a new pens and lighters shop, a new pharmacy at departure gate 24, an extended fragrances shop and a refurbished electronics and cameras store.
"We are very excited about our plans for the remainder of this year and think that these ongoing refurbishments are greatly adding to the shopping experience," added McLoughlin.
