Dubai Duty Free announces first quarter sales increase of 31%

Fragrances continues to be the best selling product category for the retailer

Dubai Duty Free (DDF) has announced a first quarter sales increase of 31% to Dh958m ($260m).

Fragrances, which accounts for 14% of total sales, generated a 30% rise in sales in the first quarter to Dh132m ($36m). Liquor and gold were the next biggest categories with gold registering a first quarter sales increase of 44%. Electronics sales rose by 36% to Dh83m ($23m). Watch sales were up 42% to Dh61m ($17m) with confectionery sales increasing by 37% to Dh66m ($18m).
 
DDF managing director Colm McLoughlin said: “At the start of the year we had forecast that 2008 would see our sales rise to Dh4bn ($1bn) and so far we are right on target. This is going to be a busy year for DDF as we move into a new head office in the new terminal and prepare for our 25th anniversary later in the year.”
