Dubai Duty Free (DDF) aims to hit sales of Dh1bn ($272m) next year, after a forecast Dh915m ($249m) in 2001. The estimated sales surge this year would mark an 8.5% increase over 2000, following an increase last year of 17%.

Speaking to local reporters as the operator unveiled its DDF-American Express co-branded credit card yesterday, DDF managing director Colm McLoughlin announced investment of Dh100m ($27m) to expand and improve operations in the coming years.

DDF sales have grown strongly since the opening of the new Sheikh Rashid terminal last year. And the planned Emirates concourse will help double its retail space at Dubai International airport in four years? time.

Meanwhile, the new branded credit card offers members a 10% discount on over 15,000 items sold at DDF outlets.
