Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Draws Huge Crowd to Ascot

Dubai Duty Free returned to Ascot in the UK as the new title sponsor of the Shergar Cup which took place on Saturday, 12th August 2006 at the newly refurbished course

A crowd of almost 21,000 turned out to the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup, the UK's only team event, to see a convincing 158 to 95 points victory for champion jockey Jamie Spencer's Great Britain & Ireland team, over Frankie Dettori's Rest of the World squad.

The Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup is the World's premier international jockeys' tournament, featuring six star riders representing Great Britain & Ireland competing against six international superstars from the Rest of the World. Points are awarded for the first five places in each of six races at the event which has been run at Ascot since 2000.

Commenting on the day's event, Colm McLoughlin, said: "Our association with this unique event goes back to 2000, and we are thrilled to have taken on the title sponsorship of this very popular day in Ascot's racing calendar".
