Dimensi secures KLIA watch concession—UPDATE

Dimensi Eksklusif has retained its beauty, cigars and fashion concessions for five years and added watches to its portfolio at Kuala Lumpur International airport

Malaysian travel retailer Dimensi Eksklusif has secured the five-year concession to sell watches at Kuala Lumpur International airport (KLIA), while retaining its existing beauty, cigars and branded fashion boutiques for a further five years. Dimensi managing director Zainul Azman told DFNI Asia that the company had won the watches concession through its Leisure Image joint venture with a local high street retailer Swiss Union.

The joint venture will operate stores at the international terminal and airside in the main terminal building, said Azman. "Swiss Union is a leading downtown retailer with over 15 years of experience," he said. "This strong partnership augurs well for the airport and consumers will benefit from this synergy."

Dimensi currently operates a 2,220sq ft (206sq m) fragrances store, a 1,200sq ft (111sq m) Beauty Centre, a 400sq ft (37sq m) cigar outlet, a 1,300sq ft (120sq m) stand-alone Christian Dior boutique and a 1,100sq ft (102sq m) Salvatore Ferragamo boutique at KLIA.

The news follows last week's announcement that fellow KLIA retailer Chocolate Sales & Supplies had extended its confectionery contract until 2011. The extensions mark the second phase of Malaysia Airports' new commercial plan, in which it said it would aim to renegotiate contracts with existing tenants. Under the third phase it will examine its retail offer for gaps before looking to appoint local or international companies. The results of the first phase, an open tender for several specialist categories, have not yet been announced.
