The Malaysian beauty, fashion, cigar and watches retailer expects a strong year driven by increased passenger numbers and strong marketing of Kuala Lumpur International airport's retail offer
Kuala Lumpur International airport (KLIA) retailer Dimensi Eksklusif has forecast a 16% increase in sales for the year to M$100m ($27.4m). Speaking to local press, Dimensi managing director Zainul Azman said that increasing passenger numbers and greater interest in the airport's retail offer – driven by strong marketing from Malaysia Airports – would boost sales.Dimensi - which already operates fashion, beauty and cigars concessions at KLIA and will open two new stores selling watches with partner Swiss Union later this year - recorded sales of about M$80m ($21.9m) last year. Azman predicted that beauty, which occupies about 2,500sq ft (232sq m) of the retailer's total 6,000sq ft (558sq m) at the airport, would continue to be the biggest contributor to sales.
Malaysia Airports is upgrading and expanding the retail offer at KLIA, taking total retail space to 420,000sq ft (39,033sq m), or 9% of space in the airport's main and satellite terminal buildings. The process is scheduled to be completed by 2008.
About 22.5m passengers used KLIA last year, up 7% from 21m in 2004.
