The Malaysian retailer aims to grow sales in the category by 15% in 2008 compared with last year

Malaysian retailer Dimensi Eksklusif has announced a 10% increase in cigar sales in the first quarter of 2008. The retailer, which operates a 300sq ft (322sq m) cigar shop in the international terminal at Kuala Lumpur International airport, aims to achieve sales growth of 15% in 2008 compared with the previous year.

Dimensi managing director Zainul Azman said the availability of stock will determine whether it is able to achieve its target. “There are times when we face shortages due to adverse weather conditions in Cuba or the Dominican Republic. The bad weather can affect tobacco leaves, which prevent suppliers from meeting demand and ultimately this has an impact on sales. We have enjoyed a good start to 2008 and we hope this will continue for the rest of the year.”

Azman revealed that Dimensi’s cigar shop is set to undergo a refurbishment in the next 18 months. “It will be more of a makeover than a renovation as little needs to be done,” said Azman. “We will implement basic cosmetic changes to keep up with the times and make the outlet fresh for regular customers.”

Dimensi’s other projects are revealed in the April issue of DFNI.
