Irish Cream liqueur line withdrawn owing to “limited commercial demand”

Diageo has ceased production of its Bushmills Irish Cream liqueur owing to limited demand. The company bought the 400-year-old Bushmills whiskey brand from Pernod Ricard for £200m ($394m) in 2005, but received only one order for the Irish Cream line in a year.

A Diageo spokesperson told RavenFox.com: "We ceased production because of limited commercial demand. We bought Bushmills because we wanted to add an Irish whiskey to our extensive collection of Scotch whiskies. There is tremendous growth potential for the brand in what is a very interesting category." The company has doubled production of Bushmills whiskey in the past year.

Diageo also produces Baileys Irish Cream, but said that Bushmills Irish Cream did not compete for sales with the rival brand.
