Details of Carrasco tender emerge

2-Oct-2002

The Uruguayan government has drafted plans for the auction of the management contract at Montevideo Carrasco airport, which will cover all commercial activities at the location, as exclusively revealed in the July 15 issue of DFNI

The auction will be held on February 26 2003, with the winner gaining a 20-year contract to operate all activities excluding ground and fuel services.

The government has set a minimum bid level of $15m, with the concessionaire expected to pay an annual basic rent of $2.5m which may rise depending on increases in passenger and cargo levels. The government also expects the winner of the auction to oversee the construction of a new passenger terminal near Carrasco's newly-built control tower.

Aeropuertos Argentina 2000 is understood to be interested in bidding for the contract, according to local reports. Uruguayan operator Neutral, whose successful bid for the duty-free contract at Carrasco fell through under financial pressure, will continue to operate retail at the airport until the master concessionaire is named.

  • Further details will appear in the October 15 issue of Duty-Free News International
