Womenswear, general retail and speciality concessions are being tendered at Dallas Fort Worth International airport

Dallas Fort Worth International airport is inviting proposals to manage food and beverage and retail concessions across its five terminals.

The request for proposals (RFP) consists of two food and beverage packages and five retail packages including general retail, women’s fashion and other speciality retail.

The RFP document specifies that retailers must operated continuously for a minimum of three years in the past ten. During that time they must have achieved the minimum average sales per square foot required for the package they are proposing on. Dallas airport requires that merchandise sold at the airport is priced within 10% of the retailer’s other locations or to similar outlets in the airport. At duty-free locations, the prices must be at least 15% below high street pricing.

Proposals will be evaluated according to the proposer’s experience and financial information, which together is a criterion given 30% weighting by the airport. The importance of the concept plus its management and staffing is given 25% weighting, followed by rental income to the airport at 15%. Participation in the airport concessions disadvantaged business enterprise programme is weighted at 20%, while the partnership with a local business is weighted at 10%.

Dallas airport welcomes 60m people a year, 60% of whom are travelling on business and 70% of whom are using the airport as a transit or transfer hub. The airport claims that passenger dwell time at the airport is about 90 minutes. Total concessions sales at the airport exceeded $205m in 2006.

The final date for questions and clarifications of the RFP is May 15, while a pre-proposal conference takes place on April 30 from 2-5pm. The deadline for proposals is May 30, and the final shortlist has been scheduled for July 12.
