The money will be used by Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital in Ireland to acquire a workstation to detect and diagnose heart defects

The DFNI Charity Ball, held at the Renaissance Chancery Court hotel in London on February 29, has raised £70,000 ($141,190) for the Children’s Medical & Research Foundation (CMRF) of Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital in Crumlin in Ireland, DFNI is delighted to reveal. The money, which will go towards the purchase of a workstation that will enable doctors to detect and diagnose life-threatening heart defects more quickly and accurately, was raised during a well-attended, circus-themed ball.

In an open letter to DFNI and the many supporters of the ball, CMRF donor and fund manager Janet Dunphy said: “We are delighted and somewhat humbled that you chose to honour us in this way. When the industry members nominated us as their choice of charity, I know that the desire to help ‘our little patients’ was what motivated them. We want to thank you for the personal commitment and time that each of the organising committee, industry guests and sponsors gave to making this project such a success. By enabling us to purchase this vital piece of equipment you are helping us to provide the state-of-the-art service that all our paediatric cardiac patients deserve, and for that we are truly grateful.”

Each year DFNI solicits suggestions from the travel-retail industry to find causes that have a personal resonance with industry members, and that we feel can benefit the most from our support. We are now looking for candidates for our 2009 Charity Ball. We welcome all suggestions, particularly from those who have a personal connection with charities.
