Airline concessionaire Duty Free Air & Ship Supply (DFASS) has signed a five-year contract with Northwest Airlines, effective as soon as its initial short-term contract of 20 months terminates.

The deal will last until 2007 and will allow the concessionaire to build on its existing programme. Spend per passenger onboard Northwest increased by 27% in November despite the fall in passenger numbers after September 11. DFASS has attributed the increase to the launch of the new World Shopping brochure on October 30, which includes a tailored inflight retail offer for Asian consumers.

DFASS director of purchasing and vendor relations John Garner told TRW: "We felt it was an opportune time to agree the full-term deal and it is an ideal partnership for both companies."

Full details plus an interview with Garner will appear in the February 1 issue of Duty-Free News International.
