The concessionaire has reported sales above forecasts for its first year of operation on the airline

Duty Free Air & Ship Supply (DFASS) has reported a good first-year performance on board Singapore Airlines after winning the full concession for the airline’s retail business in December 2006. DFASS said sales for the year had exceeded budget, despite the challenges posed by new restrictions on liquids throughout the year.

DFASS vice-president purchasing and vendor relations John Garner said that the strong performance was driven by successful new marketing initiatives including restyling the airline’s KrisShop catalogue, broadening the product range to include confectionery and high-end liquor brands, relaunching the KrisShop website and introducing a premium catalogue for first- and business-class passengers.

DFASS was also awarded the inflight concession for Singapore Airlines’ regional carrier Silk Air. Garner said: “The Silk Air retail operation will focus on providing a range of products tailored to the regional leisure traveller and special items selected for the China market.”

Garner said that 2008 holds several new opportunities for DFASS and Singapore Airlines, including sales of merchandise linked to Singapore’s first Formula One race—and the first ever to be held at night—which will be hosted on the city’s streets on September 28.
