The $1.9m contract will see Duty Free Americas continue operations on the US side of the Ogdensburg-Prescott International Bridge

Ogdensburg-Prescott International BridgeTravel retailer Duty Free Americas (DFA) has signed a new 10-year agreement with the Ogdensburg Bridge and Port Authority (OBPA) for the continued operation of a duty-free store on the US side of the Ogdensburg-Prescott International Bridge (pictured), according to the North Country Now website. The contract is valued at $1.9m over its lifetime.

The bridge has seen a 43% increase in traffic over five years owing to the strength of the Canadian dollar, resulting in growing business for the duty-free outlet. More than 700,000 vehicles use the bridge each year.

As part of the new contract, DFA will invest in its facility and new signage to promote the store to customers using the international border crossing.

OBPA executive director Wade Davis said: “We are pleased to have reached a long-term lease agreement with Duty Free Americas. Bridge traffic has increased substantially over the past few years and we are optimistic that the trend will continue, benefiting the regional economy.”
