Countdown to TFWA World rugby match begins

Th duty-free industry's third international rugby match between the Latin Lovers and the Beauty Barbarians is to take place at TFWA World Exhibition on Sunday October 21 at Saint Cassien Stadium, Cannes at 3.00pm.

The first two epic encounters have been shared one apiece and another thrilling installment is expected. As always, the Lovers have been in strict training, backed up a  strictly controlled diet of pastis (they misread the pasta instruction) and steak tartare. The Beauty Barbarians' preparation has been severely disrupted by the closure of their traditional training ground, the Camel Club.

The referee will once again be Aer Rianta International-Middle East managing director John Sutcliffe who has been provided with a special white stick and labrador by the Barbarians to help him through the game.

Once again, two teams of the industry's most beautiful cheerleaders will provide the main attraction. Anyone wanting to participate (women only please) should contact Susan Tomlinson on email stomlinson@jpgaultier.fr or Caroline South on c.south@netcomuk.co.uk

Anyone wanting to play in the international should email Martin Moodie for the Barbarians on mmoodie@travelretailworld.com or Trevor Lloyd-Jones tlloyd-jones@travelretailworld.com or for the Latin Lovers, Pierre Lequex at plequex@hermes.com

Please give details, including nationality and position played. Experience is, as they say, preferred but not essential. The teams and cheerleaders will meet outside the Palais at 2.00pm where special buses will take them to the stadium.

  • Sponsors are invited for the players boots. The teams would like to thank the sponsors of shirts, shorts and socks: Jack Daniels, Beauté Prestige International, Air France Magazine, Hugo Boss, Mediakeys, Altadis and Kappé
