Passengers will benefit from a wider range of books available at the stores operated by WHSmith and SSP

UK news and books retailer WHSmith and Danish food and beverage operator SSP are to open five convenience stores at Copenhagen Kastrup airport in October. Two of the shops will be located landside before the central security check and the other three situated airside at Piers A, B and D. The main shop at Pier B will cover 400sq m (4,305sq ft), with the five shops spanning 700sq m (7,534sq ft) in total.

Copenhagen Airports vice-president commercial business at Henrik Busch said: “We are very happy to be able to offer our passengers a new convenience shop concept. The demand for books is increasing so we are happy that the new operator amongst others has chosen to expand the range of books available to passengers. With WHSmith we welcome an international operator which is not present in the Danish market today. The partnership between SSP and WHSmith means that the valuable know-how of SSP can be used in the continued operation of the shops.”

SSP Denmark managing director Michael Grann added: “We are delighted to have won this tender and look forward to presenting the WHSmith travel-retail concept. There are great synergies between WHSmith and SSP within the travel segment and this is sure to benefit airport passengers.”
