The Kastrup landlord says it has received "interesting" bids for the duty-free contract at Denmark's main airport, where the deadline to submit bids passed yesterday

Copenhagen Airports (CPH) has announced it has received several "interesting" bids for the duty-free contract at Copenhagen Kastrup airport following the passing of yesterday's submission deadline. The landlord refused to reveal the number and identity of the bidders, insisting only that the tender process was following the original schedule, with a final decision expected by the end of August.

"The tenders and the very comprehensive material included with them will now be carefully reviewed by CPH," said vice-president commercial Henrik Busch. "We will observe complete confidentiality and secrecy with respect to those submitting bids and the related negotiating process."

The five-year contract being tendered will take effect on March 1 2007. Incumbent The Nuance Group has confirmed it will seek an extension to its contract, but it faces competition from many of the industry's biggest retailers. Dufry Group, Aldeasa, Aelia and Gebr Heinemann are all understood to have submitted bids, although it is not yet certain whether DFS Group has followed up on its initial interest in the contract. Aer Rianta International has confirmed it did not post a bid.

Kastrup's tax- and duty-free concession was worth about Dkr690m ($120m) in 2005, with total traffic reaching 20m.
