Garrett Coogan will replace existing general manager Stephen OíConnor who is moving to India

Bahrain Duty Free (BDF) has appointed Garrett Coogan (pictured right) as general manager from the beginning of April. Coogan replaces Stephen O’Connor who is moving to India to assume the role of  Delhi Duty Free Services general manager.

In a statement BDF described Coogan as “a highly experienced general manager who brings a wealth of senior management experience, having been with Aer Rianta International (ARI) for a considerable period in the CIS region including his previous position as Runway Duty Free director general at Moscow Sheremetyevo terminal D.

Bahrain Duty Free managing director Abdulla Buhindi said: “We are very sorry to see Stephen O’Connor leave Bahrain. He has done a tremendous job and I would like to thank him for all his hard work and effort during his time with Bahrain Duty Free and wish him every success in his new role in India.

"However, we are very fortunate to have an experienced manager such as Garrett Coogan available to replace Stephen, and I’m sure that he will build on the initiatives which are already underway in Bahrain."

Meanwhile ARI senior consultant Bill Maxwell (pictured below) is to retire on March 31. Maxwell has been ARI Middle East’s representative in Qatar Duty Free for the past two-and-a-half-years, where he has occupied the position of senior advisor/consultant.

He joined the company in May 1991 and worked as general manager— retail operations until 1995 and as a member of the senior management team. In 1995 he was appointed Aerofirst general manager, a position he held until August 2002 when he was promoted to regional general manager—retail, with responsibility for retailing operations in Russia/CIS and North America.

ARI director general Eamon Foley said: “Personally, and on behalf of the company, I would like to thank Bill for his positive contribution and acknowledge the personal commitment that he has made to the business throughout his career in ARI. Personally I would like to wish Bill, Elaine and their family all the very best in the future.”

These latest developments follow news that ARI group retail operations director Nick Forbes is to leave the company for personal reasons as reported yesterday on DFNIonline
