Concession revenue boosts Schiphol results
Schiphol Group has posted a net profit of ?141m ($153m) for 2002, compared with ?191m ($208m) in 2001
The company said that a corporation tax charge, applicable for the first time, was responsible for the deficit. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation were around 10% higher than the previous year, at ?356m ($387m).
Revenue earned from concessions rose slightly from ?116m ($126m) to ?119m ($129m) as a result of marginally greater passenger numbers, while average concession income per passenger remained stable at ?4.06 ($4.41).
Commenting on expectations for 2003, a spokesman said: "Amsterdam Schiphol airport expects to see passenger volume and the number of aircraft movements grow slightly this year. There is, however, considerable uncertainty surrounding this forecast in view of the general political and economic situation, and Schiphol group board of management is not in a position to forecast the net result for 2003."
