Philippines’ Air Transport Office orders airport to increase fees

Davao International airport is to increase its rental fees to concessionaires and airlines from today, according to local reports. The Philippines’ Air Transportation Office (ATO) has ordered the rise in charges and also of passenger terminal fees, which will increase fivefold to P$200 ($4.30).

Davao International airport manager Frederick Sanfelix told The Philippine Star: “[That] is actually the standard amount paid at other big airports such as those in Manila and Cebu. With the increase, which also includes rentals within the premises, we can now have more sources to generate enough income to finance the operation of the airport.”

Sanfelix also said that ATO conducted three public hearings among major stakeholders of the air travel industry, including airport concessionaires, before implementing the increase in fees. Retail concessions at Davao are run by Duty Free Philippines, which opened two stores at the airport after a seven-year absence in the wake of the Asian financial crisis.
