Competition a tender issue at Keflavik

29-Jan-2003

The prequalification process for retail tenders at Iceland's Keflavik International airport has been delayed again, and the airport authority is now expecting to announce qualifying parties by the end of next week

The announcement, originally scheduled for November 2002, has been postponed whilst the Icelandic competition committee investigates claims from existing operators that the issuer of the tender, Leifur Eiriksson Air Terminal, reserved the best sites for itself before the process was opened.

The investigation was scheduled for completion by early December last year, but due to other pressures on the complaints authorities the process has ground almost to a standstill. A spokesperson for the airport said she expected that the announcement for the next stage of the tender would be made almost immediately after the investigation is closed.
