The airport is planning how best to use available space

Cochin International airport (CIAL) in India has drawn up a plan to increase its non-aeronautical, according to reports in the Economic Times India. CIAL managing director Sriram Bharat told a press conference that a study is being conducted on how available space in the airport can be profitably marketed. The report is expected to be ready within a year.

By raising its non-aeronautical revenue, the company hopes to bring down existing usage charges and decrease landing fees levied on airlines. Turnover from the airport’s duty-free shop – operated by Alpha Asia under a management contract from CIAL – has grown by 43% compared to this time last year, according to Bharat.

Bharat also revealed that some major companies had offered to put up hoardings, kiosks and stalls within the airport complex.
