Christmas numbers soar at BAA UK airports

14-Jan-2003

BAA has posted a 15.3% year-on-year increase in passenger numbers over the Christmas holiday period, with 9.4m passengers passing through its seven UK airports

The strong holiday season bolstered numbers for the full year, which rose by 3.9% to 126.6m.

Stansted airport boasted the strongest passenger growth, both over Christmas (17.5%) and the full year (38.6%). Heathrow saw a 4.3% in passengers over 2002, while Gatwick continued to suffer from the downturn in North Atlantic traffic, with numbers for the year down 5.1%. Strong growth also continued at BAA's Scottish airports of Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen.
