China set to introduce liquids restrictions
Gavin Lipsith
The country has recognised the duty-free issue in a statement, although more clarity is needed before rules come into force on May 1
China is to introduce liquids restrictions at airports in line with International Civil Aviation Organization guidelines on May 1. The Asia Pacific Travel Retail Association (APTRA) reported that duty-free is recognised in the statement, but exact details are not clear cut and we are seeking further clarification.
According to information from ACI Asia Pacific, duty-free liquids of 1l or less can be carried on board by passengers departing from Chinese airports. Anything over the limit must be checked into passenger luggage.
There is an indication that transit passengers may be allowed to transfer with duty-free goods in a plastic bag with a receipt, but APTRA and ACI are seeking further clarification.
