Chaos in Cancun as ASUR is hit by injunction

15-May-2001

?

Incumbent retailers in Cancun airport, including duty-free concessionaire Weitnauer America, have formed a committee that has taken airport operator ASUR to court. As a result a judge has issued an injunction on the new allocation of retail space at the airport. ASUR has therefore been unable to award the new duty-free concessions, although it is understood to have already selected one of the five companies that were initially invited to tender.

Meanwhile, construction of the extension to the scheduled terminal has ceased. ASUR's share price on the Mexico City Stock Exchange continues to fall.
