Changi to monitor passengers' temperature
Singapore Changi airport authority Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore has announced it will take the temperature of all departing passengers from today
Thermal scanners will be used to take the temperatures of passengers before they pass through immigration checks, and passengers who are found to have an above-average temperature will be required to obtain a doctor's certificate before they fly.
The airport authority said the checks are non-intrusive and have no impact on the time needed by travellers to clear the various airport processes. "The use of thermal scanners is the result of applying technology innovatively to provide practical solutions," said Singapore's minister for transport Yeo Cheow Tong. "Not only does the scanner speed up the process tremendously, but it is also hassle free and provides passengers and crew with the smooth and seamless travel experience which they are used to at Changi."
Singapore already has a range of anti-SARS measures in place, including a health declaration form for all arrivals passengers, a WHO questionnaire for departing passengers and the screening of all passengers arriving from SARS-affected areas. The authority said the measures aim to create an environment at Changi where passengers feel safe, whether they are flying into the airport, transferring or in transit.
