The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore has reported a 16% increase in sales last year as its revamp of Singapore Changi terminal two pays dividends

Sales at Singapore Changi airport's retail and catering outlets reached almost S$1bn ($610m) in 2005, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), up 16% on the previous year. The company attributed the growth, driven by a 7% increase in spend per passenger, primarily to its recent renovation of the terminal two retail area, which added 20 stores to the terminal.

CAAS reported that liquor and beauty products performed best given their strong price advantage over the domestic market, with Europeans, Singaporeans and Australians the highest-spending passenger groups.

The authority hopes to build on the success of 2005 this year, as it celebrates its 25th anniversary. The airport will host a 25-week shopping promotion, planned to start mid-year.
