Changi launches liquor and tobacco tender

One of the biggest airport retail opportunities in Asia is opened as the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore releases tender documents for its multi-terminal liquor and tobacco concession.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) has launched the long-anticipated tender for its multi-terminal liquor and tobacco concession at Singapore Changi airport. The tender covers terminals one and two as well as the Budget Terminal opened last year and the new T3 due to open later this year.
The tender is due to commence on January 1 2008, although CAAS advised that it was only an indicative date". The contract will last for three years from the start date, with the option to extend for a further two years.
The airport is seeking submissions by February 9, and is holding a tender briefing on January 11. At present DFS Group holds the separate liquor and tobacco contracts at T1, T2 and the Budget Terminal.
The contract is the first of two airport-wide tenders to be launched, with the beauty contract, now held by Nuance-Watson (Singapore), expected in the next few weeks.
The tender includes entirely new space at T3, to be opened later this year. The terminal is likely to house Singapore Airlines operations, now running from T2, as well as weekly scheduled flights from international airlines. Passenger traffic will be predominantly long-haul, and is likely to generate high spend.
CAAS is also planning to begin renovations in T1 this year and RavenFox.com understands that the successful bidder will begin its operations there in temporary outlets, moving to permanent locations when the work is completed.
