Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore today officially unveiled the airport's new, improved terminal two

Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) has completed the S$240m ($153m) project to upgrade Singapore Changi airport terminal two. Minister for transport Raymond Lim attended the official opening of the improved facility earlier today.

The project has enabled the addition of 2,800sq m (30,128sq ft) of commercial space at T2, creating 15 new retail outlets and 10 new catering units. Among the beneficiaries is DFS Group, which was awarded nearly 5,000sq ft (465sq m) of boutique space in T2 this summer (DFNI August 1). It is to operate four  branded stores offering Gucci, Hermès, Burberry and one of Polo Ralph Lauren, Bvlgari or Prada.

Meanwhile, Dufry Group and local firm Sprint-Cass are awaiting the outcome of a tender for computer and lifestyle electronics contracts at T2.

Next year CAAS expects to hold an airport-wide tender for the key categories of fragrances and cosmetics and liquor and tobacco, currently operated by Nuance-Watson (Singapore) and DFS respectively. As well as existing outlets in T1 and T2, the contracts will also cover commercial space in Changi's new T3, set to open in 2008.
