Since its launch on December 15, more than 4,000 passengers have participated in the 'What's Your Range' interactive quiz which takes place six times a day at Singapore Changi airport terminals 1 and 2. The promotion, aimed at boosting sales, has also created a different and more exciting waiting experience for passengers. More than S$50,000 ($27,000) worth of shopping vouchers have been awarded in the past two weeks.

The initiative will cost the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) over $500,000, of which $160,000 has been set aside for the prize money. Any traveller showing a purchase receipt can take part in the 25-minute game until the promotion closes on March 15. After registering they sit at a specially constructed game console and click to answer ten general knowledge questions. The winner has the chance to open boxes containing shopping vouchers of S$10 to S$1,000 ($5.40 to $543).

CAAS assistant director, Foo Sek Min, commented: "The game is simple, interesting and original. It has become a huge hit since we started it.

"We're open to making it bigger, increasing the prize money and even moving it on a mobile platform where you can play the game on a mobile phone."

A spokeswoman added: "Like many airports, shop sales have dipped marginally at Changi airport in 2001. We hope to minimise the downward sales trend and give travellers an enjoyable experience during their stay."

The authority has already obtained a trademark for the game show, believed to be the first of its kind held at any airport.
