The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) confirmed this week that a consortium involving its subsidiary Singapore Changi Airport Enterprise (SCAE) is holding final negotiations with the government of Malta over buying a 40% stake in Malta International airport. The consortium is expected to take over a 65-year management contract for the airport, where Air Supplies & Catering, Wands and M Demajo Group currently operate stores.

The government of Malta has named the consortium led by Alterra Partners, the UK airport investment company, the preferred bidder for the stake. Alterra Partners is a 50:50 joint venture between SCAE and London-based Bechtel Enterprises Holdings.

The proposed acquisition follows a decision last month by SCAE to sell its 7.1% stake in Auckland International airport.

  • Alterra Partners also has investments in London Luton airport, Lima Airport Partners in Peru, and San Jose International airport in Costa Rica.
