In a move that is set to change the face of Egyptian airport duty-free, Kuwait-based Chalhoub Group has struck a 10-year deal to operate stores at Cairo's new airport terminal one, in joint venture with the airport authority and Egyptair.
The Chalhoub Group will hold 76% of shares in the new company, with the other partners taking 12% each. It marks the Chalhoubs' first move into a full airport retail concession outside Kuwait, where it operates Kuwait Duty Free under the Habchi & Chalhoub joint venture.
Egyptair, which is both national airline and duty-free operator, will continue to operate shops on the ground floor of T1 with the new company operating new stores on the upper floor of departures.
Habchi & Chalhoub managing director Anthony Chalhoub told DFNI: ?We have agreed our contract and the registration of the company has been authorised to proceed by Egypt's public investment authority. We have approved the designs, the furniture is being made and we plan to open in the last week in November.?
The full story in detail, plus comment, appears in the Cannes issue of DFNI, out this week at TFWA World Exhibition.
