Nagoya's new airport, on schedule to open in February 2005, tells TRW how duty-free will shape up at the location

Nagoya's new Chubu airport, known as Centrair, has revealed details of the duty-free offer it will unveil when the airport opens next February. In addition to Japan's biggest general duty-free shop, at 1,000sq m (10,760sq ft), the airport will operate five fashion boutiques reflecting some of the country's most popular brands.

Hermes, Bvlgari, Cartier, Salvatore Ferragamo and Celine will all feature in boutiques measuring approximately 90sq m (968sq ft). The range of brands mirrors the busiest brand boutiques at Japan's two biggest airports, Tokyo Narita and Osaka Kansai. The general duty-free store will offer all core duty-free categories in self-service format.

As revealed in DFNI October 1 2003, the duty-free team from Nagoya's existing airport will join Centrair to help run the new hub's retail operation, which will be under the direct control of the airport. Centrair has been built to cater for anticipated increases in traffic to central Japan during next year's Expo fair in Chubu prefecture.

See the next issue of DFNI, out next week, for more details.
