Carrasco auction due today

28-Aug-2003

Uruguayan presidential secretary Raul Lago confirmed last night that the auction to privatise the management of Montevideo Carrasco International airport would go ahead today

No bidders made offers at the last auction on June 25.

Last-minute manoeuvres by opposition parties and industrial action by some of the workers at the airport had led some observers to speculate that a further postponement to this on-off tender was possible.

Press reports in Montevideo indicated that three groups had shown a firm interest in presenting bids. These include Uruguayan construction company Ramón C. Alvarez along with Brazilian airport operator Infraero, US venture capital specialist Advent International with Mexican operator Aeroplazas, and a Spanish, Uruguayan, Canadian consortium. It is not clear whether Argentine airport operator AA2000 and its Italian partners SEA will make a bid.
