The expansion work at Singapore Changi airport terminal one will be undertaken by Takenaka Corp
The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) has signed a contract with building company Takenaka Corp to upgrade Singapore Changi airport terminal one. The S$500m ($351m) renovation started in May and is due to be completed in the third quarter of 2011.
Changi T1’s expansion will follow the Tropical City concept and will include a centralised immigration desk “to improve passenger flow and the level of service provided”, according to the airport authority. The terminal building will be extended airside by 35m (115ft) to provide more space for services and facilities including retail—the terminal’s total commercial area will increase by 15%. Changi T1’s main thoroughfare, the area around the gates and the finger piers in the older sections of the terminal will also be widened.
CAAS director general and CEO Lim Kim Choon said: “With the work under way, we are confident that the upgrade will refresh the Changi experience for users of T1 and will give Singaporeans and foreigners alike new and treasured memories of the revamped terminal.”
