Business Traveller Award for Dubai Duty Free
Dubai Duty Free (DDF) walked away with one of the travel industry's top awards when it was named 'Best Duty Free Shopping' at the Business Traveller Middle East Awards ceremony held at Dubai's Burj Al Arab Hotel last week
The operation, which is on target to achieve Dh1bn ($272m) in sales for 2002, came out top in a readers' survey conducted by the magazine in its April issue. Business Traveller magazine is the best-selling business travel magazine in the world with separate editions for the UK, US, Germany, Asia Pacific and the Middle East.
The awards ceremony, which was held to coincide with the Arabian Travel Market taking place in Dubai, was attended by senior representatives of the travel industry. Commenting on the award, HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, president of the Department of Civil Aviation, Dubai said: "Business travellers account for an important segment of Dubai Duty Free customers and it's is therefore rewarding to receive an award that directly reflects the views of these discerning travellers."
Collecting the award, DDF managing director Colm McLoughlin said: "Dubai Duty Free has previously been recognised by Business Traveller Germany and Business Traveller UK over the years and is delighted to accept this first award from the Middle East edition of the magazine. The operation is committed to providing travellers, both business and leisure, with a unique and enjoyable shopping experience."
Over the years, Dubai Duty Free has received over 70 top international awards. So far this year in January, DDF received the Gulf & Africa Duty Free Award for Most Distinctive Retailer of the Year. In February, HH General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE Minister of Defence, presented Dubai Duty Free with the Dubai Quality Award in the Gold category.
