Bulgarian border duty-free operators may be witnessing a reversal in fortunes following the announcement of finance minister Milen Velchev's resignation earlier today. In his resignation speech the politician cited a bitter dispute with members of the ruling coalition over his decision to close border duty-free stores by the end of the year.Last month Bulgarian Association of Duty Free Enterprises president Radostin Genov told TRW that sentiment was turning in favour of the industry, and that many politicians had expressed their disappointment at the decision to close the stores. And earlier this month the Bulgarian press speculated that Velchev's stance on the border shops issue had cost him a promotion to deputy prime minister.
