Bulgarian Duty Free Association president Radostin Genov is still in negotiations with parliament over the fate of entry-point duty-free stores on the borders with Serbia, Macedonia and Turkey after EU accession
The Bulgarian Duty Free Association is still debating the fate of entry-point duty-free outlets on the borders of Turkey, Serbia and Macedonia to decide their use after EU accession. Bulgaria's EU entry on January 1 will prompt duty-free shops on the borders with Romania and Greece, which will become internal, to become travel-retail outlets. If parliament enacts the proposed amendments to the duty-free Bill, the duty-free trade at the borders with Turkey, Serbia and Macedonia will be allowed only at exit points.
President Radostin Genov told Ravenfox.com: There is still not any progress concerning the duty-free Bill. We are also still waiting to hear the next step from members of parliament who defended duty-free stores located on inbound trace with Serbia and Turkey under condition they will be permitted to sell only one litre of alcohol and one carton of cigarettes to transfer passengers. They suggested the stores could be moved to the outbound traces of the same check points to sell goods to passengers travelling to so called third-countries.
